Samuel D. Strain
Designer, Woodworker, Craftsperson
I’m Samuel Strain, a designer and furniture maker based in the Pacific Northwest. My journey began at the Art Institute of Seattle, where I studied industrial design, but I truly found my calling in woodworking during a wooden boat–building apprenticeship in Bristol, Maine. I then spent several years building mahogany runabouts, focusing on topside and interior construction. During that time, I kept exploring my own furniture designs, two of the pieces I created then are still part of my work today.
In 2022, I founded my studio, Kope Woodcraft, a design-led, craft-driven practice. I love creating furniture that’s functional, enduring, and quietly adds warmth to a space. Each piece reflects careful craftsmanship, thoughtful design, and materials chosen to age gracefully, becoming part of the story of your home.
